UFC 166 is set to take place this Saturday in Houston, Texas. The main event of the card is the third fight of the trilogy between the two best heavyweight fighters in the world in Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos. The first two fights were polar opposites and this third fight will really tell us who is the baddest man in the world. According to Bet365, Cain is the favourite at -210, while Dos Santos has odds of +175.
Roy Nelson vs Daniel Cormier is another intriguing heavyweight fight. Nelson looked bad in his most recent fight; a loss against Stipe Miocic and he now faces who is probably the second best fighter he has ever fought (best being Junior Dos Santos, which he lost by decision). Cormier is ranked #3 by the UFC after the two fighters in the main event, so if he defeats Nelson he will likely be given the next title shot. Nelson is currently ranked #9 on the list and he has +400 odds of defeating Cormier, while Daniel is -550 at Bet365.
Those two fights are what I am most looking forward to. Of course some other big time fighters will be in action such as John Dodson (3rd ranked flyweight), Gilbert Melendez (3rd ranked lightweight), Nate Marquardt and Hector Lombard who are basically fighting for their UFC lives, and Sarah Kaufmann and Jessica Eye who will put on a great ladies show.
I personally like Cain at -210 against Junior. In their second fight Cain absolutely dominated and if he can avoid getting caught by a Dos Santos haymaker he should once again be able to push the pace and win this fight. In the first fight they were both somewhat injured, but when both are healthy I think Cain is the better fighter.
In the Nelson vs Cormier fight, I have to go with Nelson at 4/1. He has the power to finish fights and he could very well do that against Cormier. He will have 3 rounds to finish Daniel, which might not be enough, but any single punch could do it. Nelson has never been finished in his UFC career and I don’t expect that to happen this time either.
One thing is for sure, this will be a card to watch!
