Let’s take a look at the top 6 odds to win Super Bowl XLIX (according to Bet365) and who I think will win based on what I saw in week 3 of the 2014 NFL Season, this is something I will do each week during the season.
Team: current Bet365 odds – weekly result (season record)
Seattle Seahawks: 7/2 – Won 26-20 vs Broncos. (2-1) In the week 3 match-up with the Broncos the Seahawks showed once again just how tough of a team they are to beat at home. Quarterback Russell Wilson was 24 of 34 for 258 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. It took a while for running back Marshawn Lynch to get going but he showed his strength once again as he scored the game winning touchdown in overtime. The Seahawks are on a bye this week. Their defense gave up the game-tying touchdown at the end of regulation but I think against any other offense (besides the potent Broncos offense) and the game wouldn’t have even made it to overtime.
Denver Broncos: 9/2- Lost 26-20 (ot) at Seahawks. (2-1) The Broncos made a valiant effort in tying up their game at the end of regulation in Seattle last week. It was not to be however as the Seahawks marched down the field and scored a touchdown on the first possession of overtime thus denying quarter Peyton Manning and the offense another chance. Manning threw for 303 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception against a tough Seattle defense. Receiver Emmanuel Sanders had a big day with 11 receptions for 149 yards. This week they are on a bye so they get an extra week to think about another loss to the Seahawks.
New England Patriots: 10/1 – Won 16-9 vs Raiders. (2-1) The Patriots struggled offensively versus the lowly Raiders. Quarterback Tom Brady threw for 234 yards and a touchdown (with no interceptions) but didn’t come close to looking like the Tom Brady we’ve known for so many years. There seems to be something off about the offense. For the game the team only amassed 297 total yards. That’s not like the Patriots. This week they travel to Kansas City to face a Chiefs team that got their first win of the season last week against the same Dolphins team that the Patriots lost to in week 1.
Cincinnati Bengals: 10/1 – Won 33-7 vs Titans. (3-0) For the 2nd game in a row the Bengals had a relatively easy time at home against their opponent. Receiver AJ Green came back a week after suffering an injury and caught 6 passes for 102 yards. The highlight of the game may have been receiver Mohamed Sanu throwing a touchdown pass to quarterback Andy Dalton. This team could be real but we’ll have to wait and see because they are on a bye this week. After the bye they play a tough 4 game slate: at New England, vs Carolina, at Indianapolis, and vs Baltimore. We’ll know a lot more about this team after those 4 games.
San Francisco 49ers: 12/1 – Lost 23-14 at Cardinals. (1-2) The 49ers lost a division game at Arizona last week. It was a critical loss in a tough division. Besides QB Colin Kaepernick rushing for 54 yards their ground gain was non-existent versus the Cardinals. Receiver Stevie Johnson has been a bright spot in the Niners receiving game though as last week he caught 9 balls for 103 yards. It just seems like the 49ers are relying way too much on their passing attack instead of what makes them a tough to beat, the running game! This week they play an undefeated Philly team should give them some fits with their offensive scheme.
Philadelphia Eagles: 16/1 – Won 37-34 vs Redskins. (3-0) It hasn’t been easy but the Eagles are off to a 3-0 start. The last 2 weeks they’ve won by 3 points each game. In week 3 they won an offensive shootout with the Redskins. Quarterback Nick Foles threw for 325 yards with 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. Receiver Jeremy Maclin caught 8 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown. Their only downfall on offense a week ago was their running game as starter LeSean McCoy rushed 19 times for a measly 22 yards. This week they face what should be an angry 1-2 49ers team.
The Seattle Seahawks are still the team to beat in my opinion and they showed they’ll get “up” for big games. They are the best bet to win Super Bowl XLIX at 7/2. (Bet365)
