The MLB began regular season play this week and that means a lot of baseball bettors were back at Bet365 placing their wagers. The great thing about the MLB is each team plays almost every single day throughout the course of the season so you can watch your favourite team every night and you don’t have to get into any of those television shows that end up just being a let down. Not to mention there are endless amounts of MLB games to bet on each and every single day, which gives you more chances to find sharp lines and make a profit throughout the season.
I’m going to assume that anyone reading this knows how to bet on MLB games. Money line bets are to win, run line are generally to win by 2 runs, etc, etc. Instead of touching on all of that I’m going to go ahead and look at the favourites to win the World Series this year. There was quite a bit of movement in the off season and some teams, such as the Toronto Blue Jays picked up quite a few big pieces to make themselves serious contenders.
2013 World Series Winner Odds
Here are the odds from Bet365.com….
- Washington Nationals +650
- Toronto Blue Jays +650
- LA Angels +750
- Detroit Tigers +750
- LA Dodgers +850
- Cincinnati Reds +1000
Those are the big 6 favourites before the odds lengthen to +1600 for a few teams. Head over to Bet365.com to see the full odds for yourself.
The Blue Jays made the biggest splash in the offseason and now are considered one of the main favourites to win the World Series after a 73-89 season last year. Things haven’t started as planned in Toronto though with 2 losses to start the season already.
The Nationals went 98-64 last year in the regular season, which was good for best in either league. They couldn’t get the wins in the post season though dropping a 3-2 series to the Cardinals in the Division Series.
The Tigers are the top playoff team there from last year, as they made it to the World Series before losing to the Giants in four straight games. If they get there again you can expect a better showing.

My strategy is to wait until the odds lengthen a bit for the Blue Jays. With an almost entirely new roster the team will still need to mesh in the early part of the season before they start firing on all cylinders. Look at the LA Lakers this year or the Heat when they were just put together. I know those are NBA examples, but I think they still apply here. Everyone needs to get comfortable with one another to start winning games.
I’d wait until the Blue Jays drift to +1000 or so and then snap them up and hope they can find some rhythm late in the season when they have to get the wins.
