Bet On New York Giants vs New Orleans Saints – Betting Picks

The Giants vs Saints week 2 matchup is a game that everyone seems to be keying on as having a ton of fantasy football goodness.  The last time these two played was in week 8 of last year with the Saints eking out a 52-49 win in one of the most entertaining games of the season.  It seems like people are expecting a similar game this time around, but I think this could be a trap.

Before I give my reasoning, let’s look at the odds for this game.

My Picks

eli-manningI’ll start with my spread pick for the game.  I like the New York Giants a lot in this spot.  The Saints lost a heartbreaker last week against the Raiders by one point even with scoring 34 points.  What we got to see in that game was how bad the Saints still are defensively.  The Giants don’t have as high powered an offense as the Raiders do this year, but I expect the Giants to be able to move the ball pretty much at will against this Saints defense that to add to their problems are without Delvin Breux, who is out with a broken leg.

The Saints offense looked great at the Super Dome, but it’s a lot different playing outside at MetLife Stadium.  The Saints will probably look more to the run than they did last week because I don’t see them being able to move the ball as freely against this Giants defense that I think is a bit underrated.  They did keep the Cowboys, who many consider to have the best O-Line in the league to just 19 points last week.

I see the Giants getting up in this game and then maintaining the league by keeping the ball for long drives before throwing a long bomb or two to OBJ.

So from the above you know that I don’t expect the Saints to be able to score a ton of points this week against the Giants.  I think the Giants could score fairly easily against the Saints, but once they get up I expect them to run the ball a lot against a Saints defense that probably won’t even be able to stop the run.  Rashad Jennings carried the ball 18 times last week and I wouldn’t be surprised if he got close to 20 carries again this week.

All of these runs will take time off the clock which will in turn keep the total low.

I think betting the under in this game is an absolutely great bet.  Add in the fact that there could be rain during the game and I see this staying under 54 about 75% of the time.

That said, if the Saints score a couple touchdowns early this could force the Giants to open up and we could end up seeing another shootout like last year.  But like I said, the chances of that are slim.
